We’ve often driven along the north shore of Lake Erie. It’s one of my favourite areas for a day trip because there are so many stops you can take. One of them is to visit The Arbor in Port Dover, Ontario.

The Arbor is one of the best places for a quick lunch of hot dogs and French Fries. That’s their main offering that people come to enjoy.

It’s also one of the oldest food concessions in Port Dover. In 2019 it celebrated 100 years!

Tasty Food Offerings For Hungry Beach-Goers

This retro-looking building, which has been serving visitors to Port Dover since the early 1900s, produces traditional hot dogs on a soft white bun. Originally it served only ice cream, and later added it’s famous hot dogs, hamburgers and French Fries.

The Arbor’s crispy fries with the skin on are reminiscent of New York Fries. To wash it all down, you drink Golden Glow – a sugary sweet orange soda that The Arbor created many years ago.

The Arbor In Port Dover Is A Quick Lunch Spot

There’s nothing fancy about the offerings at The Arbor in Port Dover. Nevertheless, they hit the spot if you’re checking out the beach or just passing through as you tour the country roads along the lake.

For those that expect gourmet toppings, just pass on by – ketchup, mustard, and onions are pretty much all you get!

We like to grab a hot dog and a order of fries and either sit on the beach or on one of the benches on the side of the restaurant.

  1. This is crazy but for all the times I’ve been to Port Dover (including a month or so ago) I have never noticed this place! Usually we grab some perch at the place by the beach with the picnic tables.
