Review: The Judge and Jury Pub, Burlington, Ontario

On a typical Saturday afternoon at about noon time, the Judge and Jury pub in Burlington, Ontario starts to slowly fill up with patrons. This modern British pub, nestled in between a suburban and an industrial area of Burlington is a cozy spot for a pint with friends and a good pub meal.

The building is new compared to other older pubs in the area such as The Dickens or the Queen’s Head. However, the decor makes you feel comfortable and has elements of a traditional pub.

The menu we were provided on our Saturday visit during lunch hour was the breakfast menu with a few main entree options. Not feeling up for breakfast food, we chose the Judges’ Chicken Crunch ($10.49), with the chicken coated in medium barbecue sauce, and The Judges Club ($9.99) – made with roasted turkey breast, bacon and all the usual fixings.

The Judge’s Chicken Crunch – the chicken cutlet could have been smaller or cut in two to fit nicely on the bun, but overall tasty

The food was served in about eight minutes – this kitchen is ready to go when food is ordered. While it isn’t gastro-pub quality, it is tasty and served fresh and hot. The servers are pleasant and come back to your table to refill your coffee up.

The Judge’s Club has roasted turkey breast that is quite tasty, and it’s served on a nice fresh bun

People who frequent this pub are families with kids, girlfriends having breakfast after a night out, or a few guys hanging out at the bar enjoying the sports airing on the few TVs that are hung around the bar and on one main wall.

What makes this a good place to visit on a Saturday afternoon is it’s relaxed atmosphere, good food at a good price and good service.  It may not be overly exciting for a food-lover who is looking to be wowed by a fantastic lunch menu.

Perhaps another visit is needed in the evening to check out the more extensive dinner menu, as there are some interesting options such as Goat Cheese Pasta.

  1. Burlington is normally great for restaurants. I don’t know why, exactly, but there are some really good ones. Three in particular: Walker’s Fish Market, Bahn Thai and the Bombay Grill. Check them out next time you’re in the area.

  2. I’m slowly going through all the pubs, with a few occasional restaurants. But you are right – there is a number of good spots to try out. I’ll have to check out the ones you’ve recommended. Coming up next – review of Sotiris, Greek Restaurant.
