The town of Galt, Ontario is a very old part of the city of Cambridge, in southwestern Ontario, located on the Grand River. It was amalgamated into the city of Cambridge in 1973, but has a long history as a settlement from the early 1800s onwards.
Many of the buildings seem frozen in time, making for great photography. The “downtown core” includes shops and buildings that retain much of their historical architecture. Of note are the old postal office and Knox’s Galt Presbyterian Church.
Several Hollywood movies have been filmed in Galt, and if you watch Murdoch Mysteries, you’ll recognize several places that have been transformed into late 19th century Toronto.
While I took several photos in colour, to bring out the architectural details, a few scenes lent themselves to gloomy black and white photography. This is the case with the more modern memorial set in the heart of the town.
