It’s been a little while since the Holiday Inn re-branded itself with a new logo and upgrades to their buildings and accommodations.
Over the years, I, like many others, associated Holiday Inn with cheap but decent lodging. In my mind, it was a two-and-a-half stars out of five.
Oh boy was I in for a surprise during a recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Huntsville, Ontario. I became a convert!
About the Holiday Inn in Huntsville
The first thing we noticed was the friendly staff and the clean lobby. Checking in was a breeze. The rooms are spacious with updated furniture, linens and drapes. There are no frayed edges, stuffed chairs or faulty lamps.
A clean, big bathroom with a simple bath (with shower head), ample white towels and a dryer for those with long hair like mine, makes it easy to get freshened up without saying “Ewww”. Standard hotel toiletries are included so there’s no need to pack soap or shampoo.
The beds, with firm mattresses that have enough give and soft sheets are perfect for a comfortable night’s sleep. Pillows are decent too, offering enough support for the head and shoulders.
While staying at the Holiday Inn in Hunstville, we noted that it was packed with guests. Even though it was busy, you couldn’t hear guests outside the room. Good soundproofing in hotel walls is the best way to ensure you get a good night’s sleep.
Breakfast is served in a cozy room with a good selection of menu options. The food tastes like food. There’s nothing worse than eggs with cheese that taste like plastic. This is not the case at the Holiday Inn’s breakfast spread. Everything was delicious as can be for a hotel breakfast.
Renovated and Re-Branded
The hotel was built in 2007, and despite being several years old, it looks like it is completely new. Everything is immaculate. Kudos to the cleaning staff!
Mid-priced and within walking distance to several restaurants, this hotel is in my opinion is a good choice when visiting Huntsville.
Given my good experience here, I will be not decline the option to stay at a Holiday Inn if the opportunity presents itself during my travels. At least I know I will have a comfortable night.
P.S. I wish I had taken photos, but we were so tired from our drive on our summer road trip to Sudbury that I completely forgot!
