Volcanic action in Iceland: snarling travel and creating wonder

Just over a year ago, the Eyjafjallajokull volcano was causing havoc over Europe’s skies, snarling air travel for weeks and delaying vacations for many.

Fast forward to now and we have a similar situation happening. Flights have been cancelled in Scotland, and there are problems already reported in northern Germany with landings and take-offs due to the ash from the Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland.

While the eruption is not expected to last long, stress levels due to cancelled flights and delays will certainly be the biggest issue over the next week or so.

However, for those who need not travel at this time to that part of Europe, and for those who are just fascinated by the earth’s geology and natural wonders, this is a time to seek out photos and video of the eruption.

I found this beautiful time-lapse video of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupting last year. Even in such destruction and disruption, there’s beauty in nature when captured by an artistic eye.
