Despite being known for its Falls and for the amusements of Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls is also home to cool spot. A place where you can immerse yourself in nature. The Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls, home to over 2,000 tropical butterflies, is a paradise with flowers, exotic trees, and bushes.

This is a place of magic for children. It’s a photographer’s destination for something cool to photograph.

It’s also a place where visitors where enjoy a moment in a lush, garden room with the flutter of butterfly wings to be heard in silent moments.

Butterflies Everywhere

Located about 10 minutes north of Niagara Falls on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture, the Butterfly Conservatory attracts people of all ages.

Butterflies are flitting around overhead and sometimes brush against you. You can see how they dine on sweet fruit and sticky juices.

Around you is a lush, green indoor garden. On a cool day, it’s warm and humid. On a hot day, it’s a bit like a jungle.

Photographer’s Subject

Many a photographer with a huge, fast lens can be found at the Butterfly Conservatory. They set their camera to capture a shot of a butterfly with wings fully expanded. This requires patience. The brilliantly iridescent, blue butterflies don’t keep their wings open when resting. As a result, snapping a quick photo requires a fast camera and lens.

Unfortunately, my camera at the time of my visit was a fairly slow point-and-shoot. As a result, I was unable to capture a photo of the blue butterflies.

Would I go back with my better DSLR and lens? Yes. The Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls is a popular attraction, so coming here when it just opens might be the best idea.
