“All great changes are preceded by chaos.” – Deepak Chopra

Ever since becoming a parent in February 2016, life has changed. I would have to disagree with Mr. Chopra – for first time parents, after giving birth, the great change is proceeded by chaos. And so, as a new(ish) mom, still adjusting to the chaos of a quickly growing little guy, I’ve taken a step back to look at this blog and make a few changes at Suburban Tourist.

The changes are all good… I promise! It’s evolving into more of a lifestyle blog. There will still be some posts about the outdoors, travel and food but also more general lifestyle stories.

First Time Parenting After 40

Changes at Suburban Tourist
My husband pushing our son along a trail. How things have changed!

Becoming a parent for the first time in your 40s has its own set of challenges. From adjusting to interrupted sleep to planning a camping experience with your baby, there are many thoughts floating around in my brain. They’re waiting to be shared with others.

There are more new moms in their 40s than teenagers having babies in Canada –  and we’re all experiencing similar challenges. From achy bodies to sleepless night strategies, there’s much to gripe about. There aren’t too many Canadian blogs written by women who became moms in their 40s, and so I’m throwing my hat in the ring.

However, one thing I don’t want this blog to evolve into is a parenting or Mom Blog. It’s not the only thing that defines me and so, I don’t believe it should be the primary focus.

Changes at Suburban Tourist

The changes at Suburban Tourist will be minimal. I still have the same interests I had pre-baby and they are still things that I love to do: taking photos, trying out a new restaurant and exploring places on day trips. I just don’t do them as often as I did before, and you will see mentions of my little kiddo in them.

And so, there’s a need to change things up.

What you will see more of is:

  • Personal anecdotes and stories about being a new parent over 40 to a toddler
  • Parenting experiences, tips and product reviews
  • Mommy moments: things that help this mommy de-stress
  • Food and beverage stories and product reviews
  • Fitness and wellness
  • Travel and the outdoors with a kid in tow
  • For the home: tips and product reviews, with the occasional DIY story
  • Technology (because I’m a bit of an occasional tech geek)
  • Things to do and see in the Burlington area and Southwestern Ontario that are kid-friendly

I’ve been blogging since 2010 and many things have changed since then.  Not to mention, SEO has drastically changed over the years, thanks to Google’s ongoing tinkering with its search engine. So you may see an old post, revamped and re-posted with new information that’s relevant to today.

I hope you still enjoy my posts. We are on our next great adventure and I want to take you along for the ride!

What do you like to read about on Suburban Tourist? What are your favourite posts?

Until next time!
