Enjoying The Trails At Bayfront Park In Hamilton
I’m in love with the trails at Bayfront Park in Hamilton. So impressed with the well-paved path and the beautifully laid out park that juts out into Cootes Bay, giving you a view of the marina, bay and more shoreline.
Despite it being a chilly, late fall day, my husband and I decided to take a walk at this popular Hamilton park for a change of scenery.
The brief drive from our town of Burlington took us through residential parts of Hamilton. Bayfront Park and the waterfront trails are near some of the older areas of Hamilton. You can see the beginnings of revitalization, as old homes are snapped up by Torontonians who then begin the renovation process.
Visiting Bayfront Park In Hamilton
The entrance to Bayfront Park – a 16-hectare park located at Bay St. North and Simcoe St. West – sets the nautical theme quickly with a large mast dominating. The lights have the maritime look, dotting the trail and parking lot. The park is located near to the newly built West Harbour GO Station, which makes it an ideal spot for day-trippers exploring Hamilton.
A variety of people visit this park and the waterfront trails – from runners to dog owners out for a stroll. Couples walk for a bit of exercise, or perhaps as part of a date while holding hands. It’s always a busy spot with a revolving group of people visiting it.
My husband and I were enjoying a Tim Hortons coffee while taking a stroll around the park. We were taking our time in the more sheltered spots on the east side, where the wind wasn’t blowing as much. As soon as we got around the north end, we were blasted with the west wind.

A Summer Destination In Hamilton
The park has a few features that are great for the summertime including a launch for boats and canoes. As well, you have a sandy beach in a protected area for dipping your toes on a hot day. A large grassy area with a covered platform is perfect for a small band to set up and play music. For anglers, it’s an ideal urban fishing spot.
On a chilly fall day, Bayfront Park is great for a brief walk and change of scenery, but the layout and features warrant a spring or summer visit.
TIP: If you’re planning to explore Hamilton, don’t forget to visit one of the many waterfalls in the area. They are truly spectacular.
