Staying At Inn On The Harbour, Port Stanley, Ontario
When day tripping around Southwestern Ontario, there’s no need to skimp on comfort, particularly on hot summer days. Our recent trip to Port Stanley required an overnight stop to rest our weary bones.
We chose the Inn on the Harbour in Port Stanley, having seen it before during a past trip. It’s located just off the main drag of “downtown” Port Stanley, with a view of the harbour.
A Cozy Spot To Stay The Night
Staff are welcoming and informative, giving you tips on things to do in the area. Small talk with them leads to interesting rumours of Port Stanley getting a casino in the future. There’s also news of talks of a Cleveland-Port Stanley cross-lake ferry.
Inn on the Harbour has two buildings: the main inn and the ‘Little’ Inn. We stayed at the main building.
Rooms at the Inn on the Harbour vary in design and colour schemes. Some include a jacuzzi, creating a romantic setting. A bath is pure comfort after a day of travel. All rooms have a very welcome air conditioning that is a must-have on hot, sticky summer days. The main lobby area has a Maritime feel to it, playing upon the fact that Port Stanley is a fishing town.
Beds include a nice, firm mattress, which partnered with the extreme quietness of Port Stanley at night, gives you a good night’s rest.
Simple Fare For Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the “lobby”/cafe area and on the outdoor patio if weather permits. It consists of breads, cereals, fruit salad, croissants, and other baked goods.
The Inn does not have its own restaurant, but this is fine as there are several great dining establishments in the vicinity. The Kettle Creek Inn’s restaurant nearby offers fine cuisine.
We plan on being back at Inn on the Harbour this fall when the leaves change colour. The Inn is a member of Ontario’s Finest Inns and certainly lives up to the “fine” part.

For anybody who’s doing a little day trip from Toronto, you may want to extend you travels and stay overnight at Inn on the Harbour. The next day, head out further west to do a visit to Point Pelee Provincial Park and beyond to Windsor.
