Fresh Spring Decorating On A Budget With A Touch Of Pink

As soon as the snow begins to melt in my little corner of Southern Ontario, just west of Toronto, I start to get Spring Fever. Planning my outdoor spring clean-up and garden. Planning my outdoor adventures and hikes. And most importantly, I think about doing some fresh Spring decorating on a budget.

So how do I update my home decor for spring with a touch of pink aesthetic, as well as fresh accents? And without having Easter bunnies and eggs all over the place?

Luckily, it’s fairly easy to add a few touches here and there to update your home decor. I’ve shared tips about how you can spend less than $300 to update a room. And when you think about what you currently have and what could be accented, you can do so much with only a few key items.

Pink, blush, dusty rose, pastel blues, yellows, and greens are classic Spring colours. You can easily find accent pieces in these colours to transform your Winter home decor to Spring home decor.

1 // Spring Decor Tips For Boho Chic, Classy Glam, Modern Neutrals And Modern Farmhouse

The top four design styles that continue to be popular on Pinterest are Boho, glam, simple modern and an updated Farmhouse. I lean towards a mix of Boho and simple modern.

With all, there’s an underlying theme for Spring decor: less is more but stark is boring. The Boho is simpler but colourful. The modern is clean and taps into organic, natural materials with splashes of colour and different materials and textures. Glam is glam but also a bit subdued. And Farmhouse is less scuffy and more refined. Perhaps it’s the effect of the Konmari method of de-cluttering, but everything feels simpler and lighter.

With each, there are simple things you can incorporate into Spring decorating trends.

• Add a touch of pink and light green with flowers and sprigs, a runner, throw blanket or wall hanging/picture
• Switch out dark, dreary colours for light, white, neutral or natural beige (although Ikea still has a love affair with anything dark-themed… I don’t know why).
• Use glass vases for an airy feeling
• Play with textures and organic materials

There’s plenty of inspiration on Pinterest if you’re stuck. I keep adding inspirational home decor ideas to my Spring Decor board. As you can see, there are lots of white, light, natural, pink and green and simplicity in design.

There are many items in these pins that you can probably find in a dollar store or affordable shop such as Ikea or Walmart. Many things you can DIY (think hanging floral ornament, or wreath, or tiered tray). This makes Spring decorating on a dime so doable!

SPEND: $20 to $100+ depending on what you add to your home decor. I recommend adding 3 to 4 pieces for spring decorating on a budget.

2 // Metallic Accents Are Always Classic

From picture frames, mirrors, wall art and small decorations, there are many metallic accents to be found in Spring home decorations. Warm golds as well as silver – both dulled and gleaming, are a nice touch.

Here’s an example of an IKEA gold metallic stand. It’s a perfect example of metallic touches that you can add to home decor.

But metallic accents can be found in anything from a table decoration, a napkin holder, napkins themselves and salt and pepper shakers.

Candle holders are the easiest way to incorporate a little bit of metallic decor into your Spring decorating on a budget.

TIP: Gold and pink go nicely together. Look for pieces that incorporate both.

2 // Spring Green And Pinks

Bring nature inside! Add a few blooms to your existing vases. While you may not be cutting real branches, Michaels or other decor shops are a great place to start.

Floral pinks, paired with the light green from nature – think glass vases with fresh sprigs – is the easiest way to add a pop of colour to your home. The first flowers of the season from your garden can brighten the home.

While it’s always lovely to have a fresh bouquet, it can get pricey. So I opt for artificial flowers and branches from reputable decor shops – they look almost real in many cases.

I took this approach with an existing bamboo arrangement in a tall vase in my powder room. I added a couple faux blooming branches and voila – a seasonal, colourful display that brightens up a normally simple room.

SPEND: An investment of $30 to $50 in a bunch of artificial flowers will last several years. Just put them away until the next Spring! The alternative is to plant a few leafy plants or bushes in your garden or planter and cut a sprig or two to place in a vase every few days.

4 // Spring-Themed Patterns, Textures & Materials

What to look for when it comes to decor pieces? I already mentioned the metallics, but there are other trending patterns, textures and materials for spring decorating on a dime this year.

• Linen and cotton are lighter options for pillowcases at this time of the year.
• Speaking of pillows – from solid pastels and neutrals to delicate floral designs. Woven, macrame pillows are in style but use them sparingly as accents.
• Florals are always in style for Spring – Ikea always has floral pillows that pop.
• Organic materials are hot: wood, stone, woven baskets, clay, metals, natural fibres for textiles. A hot DIY decor trend is wreaths for the exterior door and for your interior walls.
• Clear glass for vases is the easiest way to create a sense of simplicity and airiness.
• Woven baskets, woven macrame, woven throws… everything is woven! But go easy on the macrame… it’s phasing out.
• Sustainability! Wood and natural materials for furniture, lighting fixtures, vases and trays

As for colour combinations that scream Spring and fresh: neutral woven woods and rattans, metallic golds, pink ranging from pale to coral pink, lime green to fresh kelly green, earthy neutral whites to stone and beige.

SPEND: $50 – $100 Add one or two pieces that work with your overall design style and place in key focal points such as a table, fireplace mantle, shelf or hang on a wall. Add one or two new pillows to complement existing ones.

Spring Decorating On A Dime

As certain trends wane, this is the perfect time to update your Spring home decor with a few key items. And there’s no need to break the bank. Whatever you can do on your own with DIY wreaths, trays, wall art or other small decorative items, do it!

And if you’re like me, with a little kid in the house, sometimes it’s easier to add a few accent pieces to give your home a little update. After all, three-year-olds do their very best to decorate your home with LEGO pieces, stuffed toys, and other fun stuff. You just have to go with the flow.
