I don’t know about you, but I’m always eagerly awaiting the first signs of Spring. Rebirth in nature – and refreshing myself after a long winter! While there are many posts about Spring self-care activities, I wanted to share a few that make sense for the over 40 gals out there.
We’ve been around the block and witnessed many Springtimes. However, over the years, what worked for us in our youth has had to be adapted. We also need to find fun in our lives.
Doing things that are different, whimsical and overall enjoyable makes self-care so much better.
In this post, I share 20 beneficial, fun, and refreshing self-care activities for Spring. They make things a bit more exciting. Let’s not get stuck in an annual rut of doing the same old, same old.
I’ve broken it down into physical and mental (with a dash of spiritual) things to do for your Spring self-care routines.

Spring Self-Care Ideas: Physical Activities
Let’s start with the body. What has the winter done?
- You’ve gained a few extra pounds
- Your skin needs rejuvenation – all over your body, not just the face
- Natural Vitamin D is what you crave
- It feels like you’ve been cooped up inside for way too long
- The flus and colds have reduced your endurance for physical activity
Here are a few unexpected but delightful physical Spring self-care ideas to try to rejuvenate your body.
Spend A Sunny Day Outside
Whether you have a park nearby, a deck, a patio or a simple background set-up, spending the day outside enjoying the warm sunshine is a perfect self-care Spring activity.
We have our deck with a sunshade that cuts down on dangerous UV lighting. However, there are moments throughout a sunny Spring day when I’m getting full-on sunshine.
Soak up the Vitamin D!
Start with breakfast and end with dinner. It’s a great way to out of the house and get back into outdoor living.
An alternative is to pack a lovely lunch picnic and enjoy a day at a local park. Make it as luxurious as you like or as simple as you wish. The goal is to get sunshine and fresh air outdoors.
TIP: Take a bit of time to refresh the outside of your home and prep it for the summer season. This is a good time to do some raking, clean your outdoor furniture, and set up your outdoor space.
Do A Sugar Detox
I know it’s hard with Easter season, but doing a sugar detox is a good way to not only reset your diet but lose weight.
Think about Keto or low-carb diets that say no to sugar: you see results fairly quickly and your energy levels seem to bump up.
Some people do a yeast detox as well. I did one many years ago and it greatly improved my digestion.
Consider all of the delicious seasonal vegetables that are coming out right now: asparagus, baby greens and things like radishes. It’s the perfect time to switch up your diet.
Plan and Do A Special Hike
Do you know of a beautiful place that has wild Spring flowers? For example, I know of a spot near where I live that has gorgeous Ontario Trillium flowers that dot the forest floor.
Find a special spot to do a hike where you can stop and enjoy the beauty of nature.
You don’t have to go far. Just find somewhere where you can escape the city life and get some fresh air. After months spent indoors, you’ll be happy for a change of scenery.
Go searching for wildflowers and new growth, like we did with these Trillium flowers, native of our part of Ontario.
Read about a great Spring hike we did at a karst area in Southern Ontario.
Create And Use A Natural Body Scrub
Speaking of sugar… you can still use it to create a natural body scrub. Here’s one that smells divine:
Spring Bloom Sugar Body Scrub
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for gentle exfoliation)
- ½ cup coconut oil (or sweet almond oil for a lighter texture)
- 1 tsp honey (natural humectant for extra hydration)
- 10 drops lavender essential oil (soothing and relaxing)
- 5 drops lemon essential oil (brightening and refreshing)
- 1 tsp dried rose petals (optional – for a floral touch)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix the sugar and coconut oil until combined. Adjust the oil for your desired consistency.
- Stir in honey and essential oils.
- Fold in dried rose petals for a pretty, springtime feel.
- Store in a sealed jar in a cool, dry place.
To Use:
Massage a small amount onto damp skin in circular motions, focusing on rough areas. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.
Bonus Tip: This scrub makes a lovely DIY gift—package it in a mason jar with a ribbon and a handwritten label. It can be a great Mother’s Day gift.
Love Your Face: Skincare Tips
One of my favourite Spring self-care activities is taking care of my skin. The winter can leave my skin looking dull and pale.
Here are a few ways to change up how you do your skincare routine starting in Spring:
- Exfoliate dead, dry skin. Consider using a gentle AHA based exfoliant to smooth the texture and radiance. I like Inkey List’s Glycolic Acid Toner. I use it once or twice a week during the Spring period.
- Switch to a lighter daily moisturizer. Opt for one with a hyaluronic acid to keep your skin looking smooth but not greasy.
- Choose skincare products with vitamin C (Inkey List has a great one), and green tea – they’re antioxidants and soothe your skin as you head out outside more.
This is also the ideal time to Spring clean your makeup collection. Old mascara tubes, heavy foundations and other old make-up need to be purged.
Spring Mental Self-Care Ideas
Let’s switch gears and look at some self-care ideas that are good for the mind.
Spring means more socializing, cleaning up and purging things that no longer are needed, and starting things fresh.
While I’m not a psychologist, these ideas are simple, common-sense things to do that may help you feel like life is back on track.
Spring Clean Your Home
Is this on your list of Spring self-care ideas? It should be!
Sounds like a physical activity, but it’s actually good for your state of mind too!
Think about it: a clean, organized home is less chaotic. It may take you a weekend or two to declutter, purge, clean and dust your home.
The best time to start? March! Some of the weekends may still be rainy and chilly, but your brain is looking forward to warmer Spring days. You will want to explore and go outdoors on the nice weekends. Take advantage of rainy Spring weekends to do some house cleaning.
Take Time To Write Down Spring Goals
Want to know how I manage to achieve things each season?
I make quarterly goals.
These are life goals we’re talking about, but they can easily be applied to your business goals.
If you think there’s some magic formula, there truly isn’t.
Goals are simple: they need to be realistic, actionable, and with a specific timeline in place. The last point is important because you can have a running list but no deadline.
This is a mistake as deadlines keep you moving forward. Sure, you can adjust the deadline, but at least you know you need to meet it. This reduces the chances of procrastination – at least it does for me!
Grab a cup of your favourite brew, and a notebook for goals and plans, and settle down in a quiet, comfortable spot. Write those goals down!
They can be anything from being more active to tackling a home project or doing that massive Spring decluttering project.
Reconnect With Happy, Positive Friends
One of the more fun Spring self-care ideas is time spent with good friends.
Is it time to have a good laugh? Surrounding yourself with positivity and supportive friends is a good way to shake off the negative cobwebs.
Enjoying the Spring season when happy is good, right?
Maybe it’s time to have a coffee meet-up with a good friend to catch up and enjoy a positive conversation.
TIP: This is the best time to ditch toxic things in your life, including friends who bring you down.
Meditation & Prayer
Next on my list of Spring self-care ideas is nourishing your soul.
If you’re Christian, the Spring is a special time in preparation for Easter. Whether fasting, participating in Lenten activities or delving into special retreats, this is a great time to be mindful of your faith.
There’s something about prayer and meditation that soothes the mind. For example, did you know that praying on a rosary, or using prayer beads with repetitive prayers can calm you? Studies have shown that saying the Rosary or other mantras can have a positive psychological and potentially physiological effect.
Make it a habit! Sometimes the mornings are the best time to reflect and start the day on a positive spiritual note.
Take Care Of The Small Stuff
One of the easiest things on your list of Spring self-care activities is cleaning up you list of small tasks.
I have one small task that’s been on my to-do list forever. It’s printing out photos that are on my phone. I plan to do it this Spring so I can have them placed in photo albums.
Small stuff that’s been on your to-do list forever can feel like a weight that’s dragging you down.
I like to break up my list into “Must-Do”, “Can-Do Quickly” and “Do This Season”. This is one of the best Spring self-care activities that will help you get productive and organized.
Fun Spring Self-Care Ideas
Let’s lighten things up!
Here’s a simple list of fun Spring self-care ideas to consider:
- Spring Scavenger Hunt: Give yourself a list of Spring things to find – flowers, smooth rocks, the prettiest spot to sit down and sunbathe.
- Barefoot Forest Bathing: Find a lush, green spot in the forest where you can slip off your shoes and connect with the earth. Feel the grass or soft earth under your feet. Step on stones! Limestone oddly feels great underfoot.
- Herbal Foot Soak Picnic: Pack a portable tub, some fresh herbs like mint or lavender, and warm water for an outdoor foot soak. Set up in a sunny spot with a blanket, a good book, and a snack. It’s a quirky, grounding way to relax.
- Wildflower Crown-Making: Remember this activity from your childhood? Find Spring wildflowers and create a crown of your own. The bonus is that it makes for pretty Instagram posts and reels.
- Cloud Gazing: Find the best spot in your backyard or in a park to lay back and watch the clouds. Write down what shapes you see. Unwind and let your mind wander. Bring your journal with you to write down your thoughts.
- Birdsong Sound Bath: Find a quiet area where all you hear is birdsong. For us, it’s our backyard on an early weekend morning, with the cardinals and robins in the neighbours big spruce tree. I like to sit at my patio table with a cup of coffee and listen to the birdsong. Super relaxing.
- Rain Dancing: On the first warm rainfall, head outside to do a little rain dance. Follow with a warm shower and your favourite cup of brew.
- Plant Flowers And Seed Your Soil: Consider seeds for summer fairy flowers – sprinkle them over the soil and watch and wait for them to bloom in June. Plant herbs and other flowers that give you a boost of colour.
- Sunrise Stretch Moments: Wake up a bit earlier, roll out your mat outdoors and do stretches as the sun rises. It’s a great way to get some sunshine.
- Flower Bath Soak: Pick your favourite flowers, or get a bouquet and add them to your bath. It creates a lovely scent… not to mention, a visual that’s aesthetically pleasing.
These all sound delightful, don’t they?
Try some of these out. They are whimsical and fun and will get you out of the winter funk mode.
Give Yourself Time For Spring Self-Care
It’s easy to get lost in the minutiae of daily life. However, try to put aside some time to refresh yourself.
Whether you choose the fun Spring self-care ideas or the more traditional ones I’ve laid out above, do it for your own good.
Question: Which of these Spring self-care activities will you be trying out?
Spring is the best time for many things to do. I would love to sugar detox, but I’m afraid my willpower isn’t so great.
As far as self-care ideas go, my favorite is a sugar detox. I will readily admit that I eat too much sugar. My second favorite was a herbal foot soak picnic. That might be an interesting activity to try outside with friends one afternoon.
It’s one of the hardest things to do, but so rewarding for your body!
Oooh! I can picture it now: friends enjoying a herbal foot soak, a nice drink in hand, enjoying a Saturday morning vibe.
These are such perfect spring self-care ideas! 🌸 I love the thought of a rain dance followed by a cozy shower—so refreshing (as a kid, I’ve done that so many times)! And planting flowers for a little summer magic? Yes, please! The sunrise stretch sounds like a peaceful way to start the day, and that flower bath soak is everything. What a beautiful way to indulge the senses. Definitely adding these to my spring to-do list!
I should really do a sugar detox! Just by cutting out my morning sugary drink, I noticed such a difference in my mood. I also want to make my own scrub. I keep thinking about this haha this is my sign to try it!
I love Spring! The sun is out and it gives me energy to work towards my health goals! Walking and moving my body is much easier now that spring has sprung.
Spring hikes are my favorite. We live near a conservation area and the wildflowers begin to bloom. :)
This is such a great list of Spring Self-care activities! I really love spring cleaning! I look forward to it every season! The windows open, favorite music playing, and the spell of fresh essential oils in the air….It’s the best and it really does help with mental clarity and state— you are so right on that!
Saving for later to try your other suggestions. Thanks!
Yes – freshening up the home with fresh air and music – love it!
