A Place Of Serenity: Orphan Lake Trail In Lake Superior Provincial Park
Orphan Lake Trail in Lake Superior Provincial Park is magic. I’ll tell you why.
Have you ever traveled to a spot and found yourself falling in love with the mood it evokes? That moment you were there – the weather conditions, the smells, the sounds and view before you can make you fall in love with a place.
A Zen Moment In Time at Orphan Lake
I took a photo of this spot along the Orphan Lake Trail and I keep coming back to it. Even more than 10 years later!
I can remember what the conditions were like: a bit of a drizzle with temperate temperatures. Comfortable for walking but enough to make you sweat, especially when climbing up the hills and rocks to outlooks. There was no breeze. Just a complete stillness.
The woods were covered with pine needles, small plants under large trees and mushrooms. You could smell the natural decay that happens in a woodland ecosystem. My hiking partner and I were headed to the shore of Lake Superior, as Orphan Lake butts up against it.
We were keeping a close eye out for any wildlife around us, in case we came face-to-face with a bear. Although I was vigilant, I was also enthralled with the place.
If you can imagine a woodland fairy scene, this place would be it.
Although some of the other trails at Lake Superior Provincial Park took you along impressive waterfalls and equally gorgeous places, Orphan Lake is always the most memorable for me.
