La Rosa (Celestial Court) Dim Sum Tweet-Up

Update: I’ve heard that this location may be permanently closed – a shame, because it was delicious dim sum!

I don’t go often to tweet-ups, but when I do, there must be food served. And boy was there food served at La Rosa aka Celestial Court) in Markham.

This past weekend, Frank and I attended a tweet-up with fellow Toronto Twitter people at La Rosa Banquet Hall’s Celestial Court restaurant in Markham, Ontario. Your first thought may be – a tweet-up at an Italian restaurant!

Surprise! The truth is that La Rosa, with its Celestial Court restaurant, is a fantastic dim sum place in an industrial area on Woodbine Avenue, just north west of Highway 407.

Organized by Patricia Shen (@luxual), this tweet-up had a dozen of us sharing a large table with a lazy susan in the middle, and enjoying some of the dim sum offerings this restaurant has to offer.

I won’t go into too many details as to what we had, but I can say that everything we did sample was better than most dim sum places in Toronto. This was Frank’s first taste of dim sum, and the verdict is “tasty!”. The highlight was the dessert – Fried pumpkin dumpling with egg custard.

This dim sum restaurant is worth the visit and trip north of the 407 in Markham. What lengths we’ll go to for a good dim sum meal!

Other attendees were Toronto tweeps: @clickflickca, @kaleelei, @curlgirl77, and @corysilver.

The word is that we may have a different type of dumpling tweet up in early 2012… the Polish perogie type.

Here are some iPhone photos from the event:

Chicken feet – delicious but typically bone-ful. Below that, a yummy tofu dish.
